Nissan's trying to get the word out about their 'self-cleaning' paint in the most creative way possible.
First, let me explain what I mean by 'self-cleaning' paint. Nissan used UltraTech's hydrophobic nano-paint technology on a Leaf. This paint is known as Ultra-Ever Dry. They came up with a prototype of the coat on a NissanNote earlier this year. The technology works by "creating a protective layer of air between the paint and environment."
"The Nissan Note has been carefully engineered to take the stress out of customer driving and Nissan's engineers are constantly thinking of new ways to make families' lives easier," said Geraldine Ingham, Chief Marketing Manager for Nissan Note. "We are committed to addressing everyday problems our customers face and will always consider testing exciting, cutting edge technology like this incredible coating application."
Many months later and Nissan is ready to spread the word. They released a paint prank video showing the reactions of people as painters (actors by Nissan) spill paint on a Leaf. The mess just rolls off the car. According to Left Lane News Nissan has no plans to offer the coating as standard equipment. Instead, they are considering the technology as an aftermarket option.
You can watch the paint prank video below.
In addition to the video, Nissan also launched a campaign on Instagram where users are supposed to guess the mess. Nissan posts videos where they spill stuff on their self-cleaning paint and then users guess what they spilled.
