1280 × 784Often overlooked, the windshield wipers on your car need to be cared for on a regular basis. By scheduling Nissan service at regular intervals, you can keep your wipers in prime condition. Our team at Tom Wood Nissan is here to share some essential windshield wiper care tips for your new Nissan car.

Three Tips to Care for Your Wipers

  1. Keep Your Wipers Clean: One of the best ways to make your windshield wipers last is to clean the blades on a regular basis. We recommend using glass cleaner or some water to remove any dirt or grime from the blade. Afterward, use a soft cloth to dry them and make sure there’s no residue left on the blade.
  2. Keep Your Wipers Out of the Sun: Over time, the harsh light from the sun will start to dry out your windshield wipers. As this happens, the rubber becomes stiff and won’t easily glide over your windshield. That’s when you’ll begin to notice streaks on your windshield. Try to protect your wipers by parking in shaded areas when you can.
  3. Avoid Using Your Wipers as an Ice Scraper: It’s tempting to use your wiper blades to remove sleet, ice, or snow from your windshield; however, this could severely damage them. Instead, use an ice scraper to clear your windshield before you turn on your wipers. If you don’t, you may end up breaking your wipers or tearing the rubber on your wiper blades.
